Trogs 09, Was started in march 2009, after a few of us started playing Golf the previous year, "Dangerous" Dave Shelton, Daz Garrett and myself (Dek) being new to the game but enthusiastic, went along to play with Dave Unsworth, Bill Morgan, Gaz Seddon,Des Okwabi, Kev Marshall,Keith Bradley and Rob Black Snr, 5 of which had been members of previous trogs and frogs. We started the society up again along with other regular boozers in the Royal Oak, Namely - Ned Kelly (handicap sec), Tom Healey, Bernard Kelly,Dave Evans, Mick Cocker and Rob Black Jnr. We also had a number of guests who played with us during the year Steve Wallwork, George Fishwick came on a regular basis along with Mark Jordan, Jeff Moss,Des Tarte,Martin Watson,John Lambe and old timer Pete Parsons. Sometimes known as Ghandi. Meeting and teeing off every sunday morning, trying to visit different golf courses, the majority of us bring the old hip flasks out (purely to keep us warm) and a few bottles of beer (gotta bring extra in case you're in a 4 ball with Mick or Ned) oh! and exra fags as well if Mick is with you (cadging git).Most of us also bring some food with us (is it a golf society or a picnic club ?) Black puddings are often on the menu brought along by either Bernie, Des or "big n daft"Dave,(us northerners love black puds), Gaz Brings his so- called Manchester sausages (nice), I have found some great pork n black pud sausages on Leigh and Bolton market that i'll be taking along this time, they're tremendous, my missus puts a shed full of butties up with self pickled onion on for me Kev, Ned and anyone else who wants one, Ned does'nt want butter on his though (fussy arse). Mick suprisingly brings butties, thats down to Vicky tho, and he dont share em either( sounds like i have summat against him dunnit ? i like him really). Every week someone brings a flask of oxo along, usually Gaz, we gotta be careful when Kev brings it, i think he puts equal amounts of oxo and pepper in (blows ur head off) nice though. We eventually play golf and hit a few nice shots (makes up for numerous bad shots), lose a few balls, well most of us do except Keith who has never lost one. We then have a couple of pints in the clubhouse (except Heaton Park bar never open) then back to Royal Oak for more butties and some of Emily's hot pie, the days presentation of prizes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, nearest pin and longest drive, do the tote double draw (which lucky Des often wins). And then have loads more beer a sing-along even if karaoke is not on, and be rough as F*** for work next day. The winners of the trophies in 2009 were Player of year winner - Dek Roberts, Runner up - Gaz Seddon, 3rd place Kev Marshall. Captains Cup winner - Des Okwabi, Blind pairs winners - Gaz Seddon and Pete Parsons. Most wins - Des okwabi 4, and Keith Bradley 4. Players player of the year ( by votes) - Dek Roberts.
